How often

Once or twice a year suits most houses, usually after the leaves come down in late autumn. Houses with trees close by, or with moss on the roof, typically need it more often.

Why it matters

A gutter only works if water can run along it to the pipe. Leaves, moss and silt sit in the bottom and form a dam, and the next heavy shower goes over the edge instead.
